Integration of Vehicles into a Future Web of Services
The automotive FM-tuner has evolved to a general-purpose headunit integrating an increasing number of functionalities such as navigation, phone and climate control. Future vehicles will be connected to the internet through wireless access networks in order to fulfil the raising customers’ demands for connectivity, variability and flexibility and to enable advanced traffic safety and efficiency functionalities. Historically highly specialised automotive software architectures are not reflecting those use-cases within their design. Hence the development and integration of new functionalities is very time-consuming and challenging. The raising connectivity motivates the approach of moving “intelligence” from the automotive embedded system to an off-board service infrastructure for increasing the innovative ability and robustness while decreasing development efforts.Mr Markus Glaab
The MPhil stage will commence by the identification of architectural alternatives for the integration of vehicles into a future web of services. The detailed analysis and classification of todays and future use-cases, currently discussed at several research projects, creates criteria such as headunits’ hardware or wireless access network requirements and enables a substantiated evaluation of different architectures for automotive embedded systems. This poses the fundament for the architectural and functional design of the proposed personalised headunit proxy approach.
